Market Garden — Operation Market Garden | WWII Matte Poster | 40 × 28″ | WAR ARCHIVE 134
OPERATION MARKET GARDEN — 17 SEPTEMBER 1944
Paratroopers descend over the Netherlands during Operation Market Garden, the ambitious Allied airborne and ground offensive launched on 17 September 1944.
Thousands of airborne troops were dropped behind German lines with the objective of capturing a chain of strategically important bridges through the Netherlands, while British ground forces advanced north to link up with them.
The operation produced some of the most striking airborne imagery of the Second World War — aircraft overhead, parachutes filling the sky and troops descending toward the Dutch countryside below.
This WAR ARCHIVE design presents the historic photograph in a stark, minimal format that keeps the scale of the airborne assault at the centre of the piece.
